Description

The Maginus crater on the moon, can be considered a smaller version of the crater Clavius. She is not as big as Clavius, 163 km in diameter from 225 km in diameter and is probably a little older. But she has similar terraces and soft interior that covers the entire crater with some central peaks. The nature of the material that covers the inside of the crater is uncertain. May be ejecta basin or a type of volcanism. To try to find an explanation for it, a clue, are inside craters that have broken rings that may have been flooded by the material inside. Most of these features are visible slightly off southern Maginus ring. Craters with broken walls are common in the seas, as the lavas have a way to remove the crater walls without leaving any trace behind, a still poorly understood mechanisms. For some, these features are a type of volcanism that was not documented by the Apollo samples. A more conventional view might say that the smooth plains are formed by ejecta craters and broken rings would rather secondary craters formed by debris ejected possibly Orientale Basin.
